Welcome to the PFI Clinical Team. We are developing a clinical teaching-practice model to transform psychological care in Nigeria. We are therefore recruiting passionate clinical psychologists, licensed psychotherapists, and clinical psychology graduates to join us.

Our clinical team is built on a teaching-practice model.
Tier 1: Consultant Clinical Psychologist
Who They Are
Licensed clinical psychologists with significant post-licensure experience. They are the clinical experts within the Clinical Team. They supervise Tier Two (2) clinicians, handle complex and emergent cases, and provide clinical consultation. They do not see every client; they focus on cases that require their expertise.
Requirements
Must hold a postgraduate degree in Clinical Psychology.
Must hold a valid license to practice as a clinical psychologist in Nigeria.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years of post-licensure clinical experience.
Must pass PFI's vetting process (exam, interview, case study).
Must commit to supervision of Tier Two (2) staff.
Must maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards.
What They Do
Supervise Tier Two (2) Staff: Each Consultant supervises 3-5 Assistant Psychologists. They meet weekly to review cases, discuss interventions, and provide clinical guidance
Handle Emergent Cases: When a case is triaged as emergent (e.g., suicidal ideation, psychosis, severe trauma), it is assigned exclusively to Tier One (1).
Provide Clinical Consultation: For complex cases, Tier One (1) consultants conduct the first session (clinical consultation). Tier Two (2) clinicians observe and build rapport. Tier One (1) consultants then hand the case to Tier Two (2) clinicians for ongoing care while providing weekly supervision.
Lead Group Supervision: Participate in and lead monthly clinical team meetings where cases are presented and discussed.
Train and Develop: Help design protocols, train Tier 2 staff, and ensure clinical standards are maintained.
Make Final Clinical Decisions: Have the authority to diagnose, make formulation decisions, and determine care pathways.
What They Do NOT Do
They do not see every client (the Intake Coordinator triages cases).
They do not provide open-ended therapy (we offer only brief therapy).
They do not handle routine administrative work.
Caseload
Active Clients: Maximum 5 clients at a time.
Supervisees: Maximum 5 supervisees (Tier 2 staff) total.
Time Commitment
Weekly Hours: Fifteen (15) hours per week.
Meetings: Weekly supervision sessions, monthly clinical team meetings, and regular meetings with the Clinical Lead.
Flexibility: Remote role.
Tier 2A: Senior Assistant Psychologist
Who They Are
Licensed clinical psychologists with less than five (5) years of post-licensure clinical experience. They are licensed clinicians but not yet at the Consultant level. They have greater autonomy than Junior Assistant Psychologists but still work under supervision. They may supervise Junior Assistant Psychologists under the oversight of Tier One (1) consultants.
Requirements
Must hold a valid license to practice as a clinical psychologist in Nigeria.
Must have less than five (5) years of post-licensure clinical experience.
Must demonstrate theoretical knowledge and practical competence.
Must pass PFI's vetting process (exam, interview, case study).
Must commit to supervision with their assigned Consultant Psychologist.
Must participate in monthly clinical team meetings.
Must maintain documentation standards.
What They Do
Provide Brief Therapy: Deliver structured, evidence-based interventions (CBT, behavioural activation, problem-solving) for mild-to-moderate cases and some complex cases. Have greater autonomy than Junior Assistant Psychologists but still work within protocols.
Conduct Sessions: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients. Build therapeutic alliances and provide ongoing care.
Document All Sessions: Maintain clinical notes, track progress, and measure outcomes.
Attend Supervision: Meet their Consultant Psychologist every two weeks for 45-60 minutes to review cases and receive feedback.
Observe Emergent Cases: With client consent, observe Consultant Psychologists handling emergent/high-risk cases to learn.
Supervise Junior Assistant Psychologists: May supervise Junior Assistant Psychologists under the oversight of their Consultant Psychologist. This includes reviewing Junior's cases, providing guidance, and reporting to Tier One (1) consultants.
Escalate When Needed: If a client's condition becomes too complex or emergent, escalate to their Consultant Psychologist.
What They Do NOT Do
They do NOT handle emergent/high-risk cases independently.
They do NOT make independent clinical decisions without supervision.
They do NOT provide full therapy (we offer only brief therapy).
Supervision Structure
Fortnightly Supervision: 45-60 minutes with Consultant Psychologist (every two weeks).
Monthly Clinical Team Meetings: Attend all monthly meetings.
Training: Participate in all training sessions.
Supervision of Junior Assistant Psychologists
Senior Assistant Psychologists may supervise Junior Assistant Psychologists under the direct oversight of their Consultant Psychologist. This means:
The Senior Assistant Psychologist reviews the Junior's cases.
The Senior provides guidance and feedback to the Junior.
The Senior reports to Tier One (1) Consultants about the Junior's progress.
Tier One (1) Consultants retain ultimate clinical responsibility for the Juniors' cases.
Caseload
Active Clients: Maximum 5 clients at a time.
Sessions per Client: 6 sessions maximum (8 sessions with Clinical Lead approval).
Time Commitment
Weekly Hours: Fifteen (15) hours per week.
Supervision: Fortnightly supervision (every two weeks).
Training: 3-month boot camp before seeing clients. Ongoing monthly training.
Tier 2B: SeniorAssistant Psychotherapist
Who They Are
Licensed psychotherapists who provide psychotherapy, psychoeducation, psychosocial support, and evidence-informed therapeutic interventions within the limits of their professional competence. They do not independently diagnose mental disorders or practise outside their recognised professional scope and work under the clinical governance and supervision framework established by PFI.
Requirements
Must hold a recognised qualification in Psychotherapy or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
Must possess a Master's degree in Psychotherapy or a related field.
Must be registered with, or eligible for registration with, an appropriate recognised professional body where applicable.
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of post-qualification psychotherapy experience.
Must demonstrate competence in delivering structured, evidence-informed psychotherapy interventions.
Must pass PFI's vetting process (exam, interview, case study).
Must commit to regular clinical supervision with their assigned Consultant Psychologist.
Must participate in monthly clinical team meetings.
Must maintain documentation standards.
What They Do
Provide Brief Therapy: Deliver structured, evidence-informed psychotherapy interventions (such as CBT, behavioural activation, and problem-solving) for mild-to-moderate cases. Follow approved protocols and care plans established within the PFI clinical governance framework. Have greater autonomy than Junior Assistant Psychologists but still work within clearly defined protocols.
Conduct Sessions: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients. Build therapeutic alliances and provide ongoing care. Deliver psychosocial support, psychoeducation, and evidence-informed therapeutic interventions within their professional competence.
Document All Sessions: Maintain clinical notes, track progress, and measure outcomes. Ensure that all documentation meets PFI's standards for completeness, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Attend Supervision: Meet their Consultant Psychologist every two weeks for 45-60 minutes to review cases and receive feedback. Participate in monthly clinical team meetings and attend all mandatory training sessions.
Observe Emergent Cases: With client consent, observe Consultant Psychologists handling emergent/high-risk cases to learn how to manage complex presentations and emergencies.
Deliver Care Plans: Deliver care plans approved within the PFI clinical governance framework. Follow the treatment plan established by the supervising Consultant Psychologist and provide feedback on client progress.
Escalate When Needed: If a client's condition becomes too complex or emergent, escalate to their Consultant Psychologist.
What They Do NOT Do
They do NOT independently diagnose mental disorders.
They do NOT conduct psychological assessments reserved for licensed clinical psychologists.
They do NOT handle emergent/high-risk cases independently.
They do NOT prescribe medication.
They do NOT practise outside their recognised professional competence.
They do NOT make independent clinical decisions without supervision.
They do NOT provide full therapy (we offer only brief therapy).
They do NOT supervise Junior Assistant Psychologists (this responsibility is reserved for licensed clinical psychologists).
Supervision Structure
Fortnightly Supervision: 45-60 minutes with Consultant Psychologist (every two weeks).

Tier 2C: Junior Assistant Psychologist
Who They Are
Psychology graduates who are currently enrolled in a clinical psychology postgraduate programme (Master's or PhD) working towards clinical licensure. They do NOT hold a license to practice independently. They are supervised by a Consultant Psychologist and learn by doing.
Requirements
Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
Must be currently enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate programme in clinical psychology (Master's or PhD).
Must be working towards clinical licensure.
Must pass PFI's vetting process (exam, interview, case study).
Must commit to weekly supervision with their assigned Consultant Psychologist.
Must participate in monthly clinical team meetings.
Must maintain documentation standards.
Note: We accept applications from postgraduate students and graduates in clinical psychology who do not have a Bachelor's degree in psychology but can demonstrate mastery of psychological foundations.
What They Do
Provide Brief Therapy: Deliver structured, evidence-based interventions (CBT, behavioural activation, problem-solving) for mild-to-moderate cases under supervision. Follow approved protocols and manuals.
Conduct Sessions: Serve as the primary contact for most clients. Build therapeutic alliances and provide ongoing care.
Document All Sessions: Maintain clinical notes, track progress, and measure outcomes.
Attend Supervision: Meet weekly with their Consultant Psychologist for 45-60 minutes to review cases and receive feedback.
Observe Complex Cases: With client consent, observe Consultant Psychologists' clinical consultations to learn.
Observe Emergent Cases: With client consent, observe Consultant Psychologists handling emergent/high-risk cases to learn.
Escalate When Needed: If a client's condition worsens or becomes complex, escalate to their Consultant Psychologist.
What They Do NOT Do
They do NOT diagnose (only Tier One (1) Consultants can diagnose).
They do NOT handle complex cases independently.
They do NOT handle emergent/high-risk cases independently.
They do NOT make clinical decisions without supervision.
They do NOT supervise others.
They do NOT provide full therapy (we offer only brief therapy).

Tier 3: Support Volunteers
Who They Are
Undergraduate psychology students and B.Sc. Psychology graduates interested in gaining experience in psychological services. They do NOT have clinical contact with clients. They provide administrative support and learn about clinical practice.
Requirements
Must be enrolled in a psychology programme (or demonstrate equivalent interest).
Must pass PFI's vetting process.
Must commit to learning and professional development.
What They Do
Administrative Support: Handle scheduling, send appointment reminders, and manage communications.
Email Follow-Ups: Send follow-up emails to clients after 1 month and 3 months to check on progress.
Resource Organisation: Help organise psychoeducation materials and resources.
Documentation Support: Assist with documentation under supervision.
Learning: Observe clinical team meetings, attend training sessions, and learn about clinical practice.
What They Do NOT Do
They do NOT have clinical contact with clients.
They do NOT provide therapy or counselling.
They do NOT make clinical decisions.
They do NOT conduct risk assessments.
Learning Structure
Monthly Clinical Team Meetings: Attend monthly meetings where cases are presented.
Training: Access to training in documentation, ethics, and professionalism.
Observation: Observe how the clinical team operates and learn about clinical practice.
Time Commitment
Weekly Hours: Fifteen (15) hours per week.
Flexibility: Remote role.
